Geometrical Drawing For Art Students

This little book “Geometrical Drawing author I. H. Morris has been prepared to meet the wants of those students who only require the geometry necessary for the art student’s course. 

Fundaments of Geometrical Drawing for Art and Science Student: The work necessary for the second and third grade art certificate is fully covered, and the student who has thoroughly mastered the contents if the book will find himself well equipped either for examination, or for taking up a more advanced course of the subject.

The book Geometrical Drawing contains nearly six hundred figures arranged in a convenient form, and a very complete and exhaustive collection of exercises, and covers rather more ground than is absolutely necessary for the south Kensington examination in Geometrical Drawing.  

The Chapter on Solid Geometry has been made un-usually full, as the Author’s experience is that one of the student chief difficulties is the want of sufficient variety of examples in the important branch of the subject.

This is a fabulous resource for the art student because few universities teach geometric drawing.

Too many of the art professors trained in US over the last 70 years don't know it and don't teach it, yet geometrical drawing skills are essential to success in many areas of art and design. (Perhaps why some professors teach instead of doing art.)

The author shows how to use simple tools

(T-square, 45- and 60-degree squares, a compass, and protractor) to make geometrical drawings. The first chapters introduce techniques such drawing perpendiculars, dividing a line into equal parts, and reducing or increasing a shape proportionally. 

The author then delves into increasingly complicated topics such as dividing circles into equal parts,

drawing conic sections (for example ellipses), and spirals. Spirals are used for many things from gun engraver's scroll work to painting a still life of a chambered nautilus. Irrespective of whether you use software such as Illustrator or a pencil, the information in this book will help you solve problems in composition and design.
