The same time last year, we were blissfully unaware of the way in which 2020 will change everything assumption with which we we know and every e were leading our lives. In a short span of one year, our lives have been irreversibly impacted by the global pandemic - a health crisis- unpecedented proportions that touched every human life on the planet. 

Our notions of space - workplace, home, transit, rest, community, institution and civic have undergone a complete transition. The home-office has become an omnipresent reality and the screen has replaced a majority of human interactions - a virtual wall between us all!

In these strange times, we have heard exceptional stories of resilience, of human endeavour, ads of valour and self-less service by the people on the front-line, instances of empathy amidst chaos and an environment of global cooperation that we have seldom seen before. 

This time has also given us all an opportunity to reflect on our lifestyles and understand our priorities better - health, family, hygiene, well-being and the sense of home. In the three intervening months of March, April and May 2020, we at H & R Johnson, organised a series of online panel discussions inviting some of the most respected architects, designers and construction professionals from India to discuss the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the profession and the industry. 

The condensed edited outtakes from these enriching discussions are presented in this journal. These live conversations were attended by more than 1500 participants from across India - an overwhelming response that we did not anticipate and were thrilled to behold. 

I am also very proud to share that the R&D team at H & R Johnson had created an incredible anti-microbial compound - a feat of patented scientific achievement available for many industries. Using this technology, we had (much before the pandemic) developed an entire range of Germ-Free tiles and sanitaryware that is not only critical for use in hospitals, laboratories and public buildings, but now have a great consequence in our homes and offices.
